Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

  • Get me out of this mess! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am considering standing outside my local Jeep dealership with a sign that reads " talk to me before you buy a Grand Cherokee" I have had electrical issue after electrical issue, transmission, all exterior lights quit working, wipers come on randomly, climate control either hot or cold, fuel cap would not open, random check engine light which could not be duplicated at dealership, five factory recalls, still waiting on parts for two of these. they always tell me there were software updates for this vehicle but I have no way of knowing these updates exist because Jeep is not required to notify you, so unless you are back at the dealership for routine service the updates are never done. GRRRRRR!

Purchased new and with regular oil changes every 4k and transmission oil changes very 30k, this has been one solid vehicle. Now with 181,000 miles and still running strong. I have maintained everything. Only significant repairs were water pump and radiator at 100k miles., idle air control valve at 110k, fuel pump at 120k, rear axle bearing at 157k and front balljoints at 170k. Has been great in snow. Mileage with the 5.2 V8 has been averaging about 17 mpg. Engine still meets emissions and has pep. Very well-engineered and reliable vehicle. Body still solid, no squeaks or rattles. Would buy another Grand Cherokee in a heartbeat.

  • Its the best value! - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Im very happy and impressed with my new Jeep purchased 2013 between christmas and New Years. The vehicle feels solid, smooth, and is fun to drive. My search for the best SUV started early 2013 with a 2013 BMW X5 loaner while my wifes car was in for service. I test drove them all, but with the focus on a two-row, mid-size that provided good handling (for and SUV), decent acceleration and lots of leg room all around. I did not want too much storage with the school bus feel. Exterior styling and luxury interior with a large touch control/nav. screen along with a good sound system also on the wish list. The Summit provided all of these things and much more, like strong off road abilities.

  • Its Still A Chrysler Product - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Jeep is noted for recalls and this one has had a few already. While I love the apparent fit and finish, there are obvious design flaws in Jeeps year after year. Certainly overpriced when optioned out. I think Ill find a more affordable vehicle when this one wears out. If you own one for just a couple of years, you may avoid the expensive repairs, but for long-timers like me, they will get you well before 75,000 miles.

I love to drive this vehicle. It feels like a kid wanting to play. Hit the gas and youre off to a race track. Its got enough torque to sink you into the seat. Very fun to drive! Everybody has to realize that this is an SUV and it isnt supposed to corner like a race car. All in all I think it does just fine.

  • Good for everything - 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I got the Jeep from my uncle with 200,000 miles on it and since have added 30,000. I havent had one issue with it. It still has good power uses zero oil and gets 20-ish on the highway despite awd and 3 in over sized tires. It does quite well off road. Ive yet to meet a hill it wont conquer. Good all round vehicle from the city to the country from the 1st time vehicle to the one thatll last forever

  • A True Luxury Vehicle - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The interior of the Overland is incredibly comfortable and upscale. I have compared my Jeep to my friends expensive SUVs (Suburban, Range Rover, Hummer H3) and I think my Jeep wins hands down. Leather/Suede seats, wood grain steering wheel, perfectly placed items abound. I am ecstatic about my third Jeep...I cant imagine driving anything else.

  • Stay Away from the 2001 Grand Cherokee - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Bought this vehicle new. I have replaced almost everything including the transmission at 103,000 miles. Jeep/Chrysler should fall off the face of the earth. Im waiting for my 3rd window regulator to break. I have a standing appointment every two weeks with the repairman to have my Jeep fixed. I will hold my head up high as I return to buying vehicles from Japan and Korea. Chrysler should give up making automobiles. It is embarrassing to the USA!

Sold an Escalade for this SUV. Superfast, Car and driver reviews say 13.40 in the 1/4. Sounds great, spotty build quality with paint and plastic. Great performance, great handling rides like a performance car should, not for the person who wants to ride on an air cushion. Gets a lot of attention at lights and parking lots. Stops on a dime with the huge brakes.

  • Love my 97, but scared of new models - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Thus far, my 1997 GC Ltd has been amazingly reliable. As expected, after 105,000+ miles, small problems have been showing up the past 6 mos. My latest concern is U-Joints. Prior to that, a leek in the antifreeze line, and three new batteries in 14 mos (obviously, something amiss w/ the electrical system, but no one can figure it out). Ive also had rotor issues (others mentioned). Had to have the front and rear replaced. When disengaging from reverse to put it in drive, I find it has problems moving beyond neutral until I do it two or three more times.
